Dr. Gunes Ekin Atilla-Gokcumen's lab focuses on understanding the health risks associated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of chemicals that contaminate our environment and affect human health. The lab investigates how PFAS exposure impacts brain development and function, particularly in relation to neurodevelopmental disorders like autism and ADHD. They use zebrafish models and various experimental techniques to uncover the cellular mechanisms of PFAS uptake and its neurotoxic effects.
