Research Focus
Dr. Stefan Rothenburg's lab focuses on developing innovative strategies to combat viruses that are transmitted by animals and insects. They are working on a project to create recombinant antiviral proteins (called REAVRs) that can sense and inhibit the replication of various viruses. By improving the immune response in mosquitoes, they aim to reduce the risk of zoonotic diseases affecting humans.

Research Aims
3AIM 01Develop and optimize recombinant antiviral proteins to test their effectiveness in inhibiting virus replication.
AIM 02Characterize double-stranded RNA-induced promoters in mosquito cells and assess their response to viral challenges.
AIM 03Create transgenic mosquitoes expressing antiviral proteins and evaluate their resistance to arbovirus infections.
