Elbasiouny Neurophysiology Lab
Sherif M Elbasiouny · Physiology
Dr. Sherif M Elbasiouny's research focuses on understanding the excitability of motoneurons, which are critical to muscle movement and are affected in conditions like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His lab investigates how changes in the electrical properties of these neurons contribute to their death in ALS and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). By using various mouse models, the lab aims to identify ion channel mechanisms that might serve as new targets for effective treatments.
